This accessibility statement applies to Research as Pedagogy (https://rapnexus.ed.ac.uk/wp/ ). This website (“site”) is hosted by the University of Edinburgh. This statement has been written by the site author, Margaret MacDougall. I want as many people as possible to be able to use this website. For example, that means you should be able to:
- zoom in up to 300% without the text spilling off the screen;
- navigate most of the site using just a keyboard and access web pages in a consistent manner;
- view most of the site pages easily without a time limit being set on content or concerns relating to auto-updating, flashing or animations;
and
- ascertain the purpose of all links from the explanatory text provided.
I have also made the site text as simple as possible to understand.
I know that some parts of the site are not fully accessible. Correspondingly, this website is only partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.1 AA standard, since:
- you cannot modify the line height or spacing of text;
- most older PDF documents are not fully accessible to screen reader software;
and
- there is a need to explore the availability of a plugin which is supportive in suggesting alternative search terms in return for errors in search terms.
Additionally, if you are a member of University staff or a student, you can use the free SensusAccess accessible document conversion service:
What I am doing to improve accessibility
I have installed the plugins One Click Accessibility and WP Accessibility Helper (WAH) on this site. This will enable me to explore further enhancements to the site in the future. It is my intention up the end of 2020 to set aside one half-day per week, non-inclusive of annual leave and University holidays, as normal practice to explore the functional capabilities of the site for improving accessibility and to implement changes, where appropriate. It is not evident that any relevant elements of the accessibility requirements documented under The Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018 should be viewed as impose a disproportionate burden for implementation.
